Geek of the Week: Zenescope President, Joe Brusha
I gather it’s part of a wider ‘verse of stories, which might have helped my opinion of it, but I wasn’t enchanted by the rewrite of Oz though I’m not a big fan of Oz to begin with either, so maybe my reaction is somewhat to be expected.
I’ve seen these Grimm Fairy Tale comics before, but have never really been interested in reading them.
Again, my humble opinion. Let us just say it was abrupt and not very well done and leave it at that. Netgalley provided jle book to me for free in return for an honest review. I’m not a fan of the comic-style women with hardly any clothes on and in ridiculously promiscuous poses. I have recently come to love retellings and this was another instance of reaffirming my love for both the original work and the re-imagining. It was nice to see it switched up a bit and have Glinda be more of a leader than in the original work.
As for the story, I didn’t feel like there was much character development, so I didn’t really care about the characters. Wonderland Omnibus Aug 05, If you’re like me and love anything Oz, you should check this out. Some of them for the better.

There were some good ideas and the lion, scarecrow, and tin man all looked amazing, BUT the entire story was one of those “we need to collect the pieces of this ancient relic so that we may defeat evil”- characters were not well developed and it was hard to take any of the female characters seriously as every single one of them dressed like they were a lingerie model.

Brusha took a popular story with well-known characters and made them all his own. Zenescope always has a fairly aggressive convention schedule every year.

I was given a copy of rbusha book by the publisher for review purposes. The author took Oz as we know it and turned it into this dark world that’s in a bloody war.
